The teacher succeeds in defiance of the system. She's the exception, not the rule. Her success is so exceptional that a movie was made about it. Think about it, the exception is the students actually learning, and it is so rare that Hollywood made it into a feature film! And, of course, the education system will take this single exceptional, Herculean effort by one free-thinking and acting person and apply it to it's "never has worked" system and claim that the system works. I'm sick and tired of seeing evil bureaucrats take credit for the actions of good people. They steal the accolades due these good people by claiming it is their system that made it possible for her to succeed. In reality, she succeeded in spite of their worthless and stiffling system. Even though this is a movie about the triumph of the individual, we must not forget that it was the government that created the tragic environment in which the story takes place. The real tragedy is the many teachers and students who have been hurt by the government educational system. How many have had their enthusiasm and energy diffused and dissipated by the suffocating blanket of government education. Yes, we do cheer this one exceptional teacher that was able to tear through the repressive blanket, but - and this is worth thinking about - there are many hundreds of thousands of teachers and students who are suffocated and silenced by our government educational system. My fellow freedom loving Americans, this is a crime against the very spirit of humanity. The only effective way to successfully educate our children and encourage more exceptional teaching is to take the government's education monopoly away and replace it with the competition and choice found in the entreprenuership of the free-market. The free-market would ensure a superior education at less cost than a government monopoly by encouraging entreprenuership. Entreprenuers would develop curriculum based on the wants, needs and income of the parents. For instance, there would be schools based on religion (or not), science, art, athletics, trades, etc. Conflict would be reduced because parents could choose to send their children to a school of their liking. By reducing conflict in this way, education would become the primary focus of a school and the children would become educated. We as free individuals have a decision to make. Do we stay on the same destructive course as portrayed in "Freedom Writers", where
educated students are the exception under our current oppressive government system? Or do we admit the truth to ourselves and take
personal responsibility for our childrens' education and seek out a free-market solution where success becomes the norm?
